So you think your personal details are safe with the social media giants? This could be true, but if past records of big company security are anything to go by, you should definitely not trust anyone to keep you safe other than yourself. At CSOOnline.com, for example, they tell us about 17 huge data breaches that leaked the personal details of literally billions of users to hackers. This isn’t a problem with just smaller online companies either. The lineup includes giants such as Yahoo, eBay, and Sony’s PlayStation network. Frightening stuff huh? The good news is most social media sites now incorporate two-factor authentication into their system, and even if you find it to be bothersome to set up and work with it is really the best way to keep your information safe from the hackers prying eyes. Popular social media sites that currently utilize two-factor authentication:

  • Facebook
  • Google Plus
  • Twitter
  • Instagram
  • LinkedIn
  • Pinterest
  • Snapchat

Unfortunately, there are also other ways hackers can get to you, here’s an infographic which details further ways to keep yourself safe on social media:
